Mustangs Sign Three Riders to NLIs

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU equestrian team announced the signing of Hannah McCain, Morgan Redwine, and Jaclyn White to National Letters of Intent today. All three riders will join SMU's western team in its inaugural season.

Mustangs Edged in Second Round of National Championships

WACO, Texas (SMU) - The SMU equestrian team was defeated by No. 3 Georgia, 6-2, on Friday, ending the Mustangs' season in the second round of the National Collegiate Equestrian Championship on Friday at the Extraco Events Center.

Mustangs Dominate First Round of National Championships, 6-2

WACO, Texas (SMU) - The SMU equestrian team dominated New Mexico State in the first round of the National Collegiate Equestrian Championship on Thursday at the Extraco Events Center. The overall score was 6-2 with a raw score of 1189-1113.

Five Mustangs Named All-Americans

DALLAS (SMU) - Five SMU equestrian riders were named to the 2013 Second Team All-America by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association. Alex Butterworth, Schaefer Raposa, and Courtney Line were three of the four riders chosen in the equitation over fences category. Greer Hindle and Mary Abbruzzese were selected for equitation on the flat.

SMU Equestrian Earns Academic Honors

DALLAS (SMU) - SMU equestrian rider Julianna Fischer has been named to the National Collegiate Equestrian Association's Academic First Team. Emma Roberts, Courtney Line, and Rachel Reid were each named to the NCEA Academic Second Team. In addition, 14 Mustangs were named to the Honor Roll.

Mustangs Earn No. 6 Seed in National Championship

DALLAS (SMU) - The SMU equestrian team is the No. 6 seed in the hunter seat bracket for the 2013 National Collegiate Equestrian Championship. The Mustangs will face No. 11 New Mexico State in the first round of competition on April 18 at 9:00 a.m. at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas.

Mary Abbruzzese Named Student-Athlete of the Month

COLUMBIA, S.C. (SMU) - SMU equestrian freshman Mary Abbruzzese was named student-athlete of the month for February in equitation on the flat by the National Collegiate Equestrian Association.

BROOKINGS, S.D. (SMU) - The No. 9 Mustangs edged No. 10 South Dakota State, 6-4, Sunday, with a raw score of 803-747. Rookie Alex Butterworth earned an MVP nod for the team during the equitation over fences portion of the competition. SMU is currently 8-3 this season.

DALLAS (SMU) - The No. 10 SMU equestrian team was defeated by No. 6 Baylor with a raw score of 727-738 on Saturday morning at BuckBranch Farm. The teams tied 5-5 in point totals but the Mustangs fell to the Bears when the raw score was taken into consideration. With the loss, SMU moves to 6-3 on the season.

BARTONVILLE, Texas (SMU) - SMU equestrian captain Julianna Fischer won the $10,000 Fleur de Lis Jumper Derby this past weekend. The junior rode her horse, Lola, for the derby comprised of several natural obstacles combined with normal jumps. Fischer rode 16th in a field of 26 competitors and edged an older professional by a few tenths of a second for the victory.
