July 10, 2007: Crawler has released a new beta version of Spyware Terminator 2.0 for testing. Version 2.0 represents a significant milestone in Spyware Terminator development as it includes a list of brand new features, enhancements in functionality and an improved user interface. The most notable changes are listed below.
Spyware Terminator users can get an overview of the program status via the new System Summary tab. Enabling a user to check the status of the spyware scan schedule, real-time protection and update information with a single glance, the Summary page works as a guide-post to conveniently reach other functionalities from one location.
Spyware Terminator's scanning engine has been significantly improved. First, we have improved the overall performance of the scanning engine. Scans operate with improved accuracy, efficiency and speed. Next, we provided the user with options to customize the scans. Finally, the user can now create up to five custom scan profiles.
Spyware Terminator 2.0 introduces the ability to store scan reports for archiving and later review. All scan reports will be automatically saved on the user's computer. Through the use of the new "Scan reports" button in the "Spyware Scan" tab, the user will be able to review and manage the report from all previous scans. Spyware Terminator also provides the option in the Scan settings to specify the amount of space which will be allocated for storing scan reports.
This brand new tab offers three new functionalities that significantly enhance the user’s security.
Cookies Scan - this feature checks the domain of each cookie stored by Internet Explorer and Firefox against Web Security Guard's comprehensive database of over 196,000 websites and reports each item that Web Security Guard determines to be associated with a risky or malicious website.
Favorites Scan - similar to the Cookies Scan, this feature scans Internet Explorer favorites and Firefox bookmarks against Web Security Guard's database, reporting items from risky or malicious websites.
System Immunization - prevalent in several popular security titles, System Immunization will inoculate the user's computer to prevent the execution of known malicious code and content from the Internet. With a single click of a button, the user's computer will be protected against thousands of known malicious items.
Spyware Terminator Help tab was rebuilt with the intent of improving structure and ease of use. Users can opt to download a full offline version of our help which alleviates the process of introducing our new features while fully describing the foundational features on which Spyware Terminator was developed.
We have analyzed multiple computers with fresh versions of Windows 98 and later, and have built a database of files and locations which we have determined to be safe. The implementation of this Safe Database will significantly improve Spyware Terminator's real-time shield performance and will help to greatly reduce the number of alert dialogs requiring user input that are displayed as a result of the Host Intrusion Prevention System (HIPS).
The update process has been improved to help avoid the remote possibility of failure. Users will benefit from the new "Refresh" button which provides the ability to manually check for updates in the event of failure with the automatic process. Users who require a proxy server to connect to the Internet will benefit from our improved proxy support as well.
More options were added to the Scheduled Scan settings to make it more user-friendly.
Version 2.0 also addresses bugs found by our development team and testers or reported by valued Spyware Terminator users at our Support Forums.
We have been actively updating Web Security Guard, adding new features, improving the database and finding new, ingenious ways to integrate it with Spyware Terminator.
As mentioned with Spyware Terminator, the Web Security Guard database will be used by Spyware Terminator to identify malicious cookies and favorites. In the future, we hope to integrate Web Security Guard in even more innovative ways.
Web Security Guard will use a three step system to generate more useful reviews for users. First, we will have an account system which will use users' Spyware Terminator Forum accounts for posting reviews for websites. Web Security Guard currently allows users to login with their accounts; however, a webpage interface for the accounts will be available in the near future. If users do not have an account at the Spyware Terminator Forum a link will be available which directs users to the appropriate place to obtain one. Second, we will be giving more weight to reviews from users with accounts on the Spyware Terminator Forum. We always welcome anonymous reviews, but reviews that can be associated with identifiable users are more valuable and will be given more weight towards the overall rating of the site (green, yellow or red). Lastly, we will have a system which will allow users to rate other user reviews. Similar to systems at Digg.com, Del.icio.us and Netscape.com, website reviews which garner more positive ratings will be shown towards the top while those with more negative ratings will be shown towards the bottom. Keep your eyes open for these new and exciting features in the future.
As most people know, Spyware Terminator and the Spyware Terminator Setup Assistant have been translated into several international languages. We have been working with our translators to have Web Security Guard translated as well. Web Security Guard will be available in several languages for our non-English speaking users. The initial beta version will feature Portuguese and Spanish languages. We will add more languages as the beta period progresses.
We also have been working with translators to make installation files for Spyware Terminator and Web Security Guard available in other languages. The setup file will run and automatically detect the default localization of the user's computer to determine what language to display to the user. The initial beta version of Spyware Terminator and Web Security Guard will feature the Spanish language. As the beta period progresses we will be adding more languages.
We would like to invite you to test the new features of Spyware Terminator 2.0 and Web Security Guard. We look forward to receiving your valued feedback at the Spyware Terminator Forums!
