Yes, you can hide Fun Ball for a while by right-clicking the Fun Ball, selecting the "Snooze" option and then the time period for which you want to keep Fun Ball hidden.
You may also want to close the Fun Ball until next time you restart your computer. To do so, right-click Fun Ball, select the "Close" option and then select "Exit (until restart)".
